Michelle Askeland
Originally pursuing an advertising design degree as a young adult, Askeland shelved this pursuit to raise a family from her twenties to thirties. She would later return to her studies as a student of San Joaquin Delta College, before graduating with her Bachelor’s degree in music at CSU Stanislaus in Turlock. Askeland now teaches as a fifth grade band and strings instructor while creating art on the side.
Nature is the central theme of Askeland’s art. Florals and landscapes are often depicted in her paintings. Watercolor is her preferred medium, but also expresses her creativity in the mediums of sewing, quilting, and gardening. Jodi Jensen, a successful watercolorist, has been described as a source of inspiration in Askland's watercolor endeavors.
Statement: “I’ve been interested in art since I was in elementary school. Viewing and creating art stretches my imagination and uplifts me. I’ve worked with most mediums but especially enjoy watercolor. I love watercolor’s transparent color and instant results.”
